Common questions
How much mulch do I need?
Length × width × depth ÷ 27 (all in feet) = cubic yards. A 20×10 bed at 3" deep takes about 1.9 yards — or 25 of the standard 2 cu ft bags.
How deep should mulch be?
2–3" is the sweet spot: enough to suppress weeds and hold moisture, not enough to suffocate roots. Keep it 2–3" back from trunks and stems — "mulch volcanoes" rot trees.
Bags or bulk?
One cubic yard = 13.5 bags (2 cu ft). Past about 6–7 bags, a bulk yard delivered or picked up is cheaper — and refreshing beds annually, bulk wins every year after.
